Rotherham United defender, Tom Newey saw red this afternoon at Don Valley as the Millers had to hold on for a nil-nil draw with lowly Barnet.

Newey, who was asking Barnet’s Izale McLeod to give him the ball, so the Millers could take a free kick, seemed as surprised as everyone else at Don Valley when the Barnet player fell down like a sack of potatoes and Newey shown red for ‘violent conduct’.

Millers Manager, Ronnie Moore was asked by Radio Sheffield about the sending off and said, ‘I think it was a joke. The linesman said Tom Newey had thrown a punch but the only thing he tried to do was get the ball off the lad. It was right in front of me and I couldn`t see any reason why he was sent off so I hope they have a look at it.

‘You do expect the officials to get things right. The guy was only ten yards away and he tells the referee, who hadn`t seen anything, that a punch was thrown. Which it hasn`t, if I`d seen him do that I`d fine him. I just hope they are honest enough to have a look at it and maybe we will be able to do something about it.

‘You do expect the officials to get the big decisions right and that was a big decision for us.’
