Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore asked how ‘thick’ his players were today after the early goal that set the Millers up for their first loss at Don Valley since they lost to Wycombe in October.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the two-one loss against Southend this afternoon, Moore said, ‘Well, to put the ball back to our ‘keeper from the kick-off against the wind, how thick are they? It just didn’t make sense. I mean, they kicked off for the second half, let the ball go out of play in our half. They are so naïve it’s unbelievable.

‘It doesn’t matter who you are playing against to give away two sloppy goals to be two down in fifteen minutes it gives you a mountain to climb and we weren’t good enough today to do that. And you can’t play at the tempo we’ve played at today and I’m finding it hard to pick someone out who has done well. We get it back to two-one and have a hell of a chance but the tempo wasn’t there.

‘You know they know we’re three minutes into time added on and Tongey gets the ball and rolls it a yard – just put the ball into where we are going to get something from it! The crowd are going berserk to do that, I’m going berserk to do that but some of the decisions they made today were shocking and you can’t blame the wind because it was the same for them. You can’t defend the way we defended today. They got far too many crosses in the box, especially in the first half where the full backs haven’t gone and closed people down. We are very lucky that we wasn’t more than two down at half-time. And, I’d like to see us press on once we’d got back to two-one when there was plenty of time to go. There was too many wrong decisions and too many poor crosses in the box today.’

‘We weren’t at the races today and we’ve two really tricky away games to come now.’
