Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore said he was pleased how his side got back into the game, after going one behind in the opening thirty seconds of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Huddersfield this evening at Don Valley.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after the five-two defeat, Moore said, ‘We knew it was going to be tough but it makes it an awful lot harder when you concede after thirty seconds. But we got back to one-one and then Popey’s had a chance to make it two-one and it’s all about things going for you at the right time. We were playing a quality side but it doesn’t matter if you’re playing the Dog and Duck we can’t defend the way we did. The second goals no-ones gone out to him the third goal we’ve been caught, the fourth went straight through the middle and we were found wanting at times in our defending. But we’ll be working on that one afternoon and we need to get back to basics and getting the right shape in there.

‘I thought there was a lot of positives tonight. We got forward it’s just every time we didn’t finish behind them they counter attacked us with the pace they’ve got. You’ve got to be realistic and look at their squad, I mean, I think their bench cost more than our team.

‘Attacking wise, we could have come back into the game just after half-time when Luke (Ashworth) had the free header and missed it and Bradders (Mark Bradley) had two shots and Warney’s (Paul Warne) had a shot so it’s not like we haven’t had our opportunities but we just didn’t take them. But, as I say, you can’t defend like that, the defending is so poor it’s untrue and we’re conceding too many goals and we’ve got to put it right. There is no doubt we will improve on the defending.

‘I thought the crowd was good today. I thought this was a game where they could really have got into the ribs but there’s a lot who tried to get behind us and didn’t boo and we appreciate that.’
