Rotherham United ex player, Andy Monkhouse is in the squad travelling from Hartlepool to face the Millers at Don Valley tomorrow for the last friendly game before the season begins.

Monkhouse began at Millmoor as a trainee, rising through the ranks until he got his chance in the first team when just seventeen. Ironically, his debut was against the team he now plays for, Hartlepool and he scored in a three-nil win for the Millers. He played 128 games for Rotherham before getting some long-term injuries and eventually moved on to Swindon and then to Hartlepool in February 2007, although he had previously been on loan with them.

Speaking to Hartlepool’s Official Site, Monkey (as he is affectionately known to Millers fans) said, ‘I learnt the game with the Youth team at Rotherham and enjoyed my time there and it will be good to go back and see some old faces.’ As an ex Miller he is concerned about the clubs off-the-field problems, ‘I’ve played a few times at Don Valley and think it’s a bit of a funny stadium – I’d rather be playing at Millmoor. Hopefully things will work out for them.’

Another ex Miller, Richie Barker is also in Danny Wilson’s team tomorrow. Richie made 140 starts for the Millers and was with them between 2001 and 2004 helping them get promotion to the Championship. From Rotherham he moved to Mansfield where he became captain and moved to ‘Pool in January 2007.

Danny Wilson’s squad he is bringing up tomorrow is: Budtz, Lee-Barrett, McCunnie, Nelson, Clark, Collins, Humphreys, Boland, Sweeney, Liddle, Jones, Power, Robson, Monkhouse, Foley, Barker, Brown, Porter.
