Rotherham United are hoping to get notification of how their appeal against Matt Derbyshire’s red card has gone on sooner rather than later.

After Referee Kevin Friend sent the Millers striker off on Saturday for what he said was ‘leading with an elbow’ having looked at footage of the incident the Millers decided to appeal.

Yes, there was deep gash to the head of Leeds player Gaetano Berardi and it seems that it was the blood that swayed Mr Friend into, what Millers Boss Neil Warnock says, is a ‘harsh decision’. When I’ve looked at the incident I think Matt did catch Berardi with his hand or arm but I doubt it was intentional.

Speaking about the appeal First Team Coach Ronnie Jepson told MillersPlayer, ‘We’ve appealed against it because Matt isn’t that type of player and he was distraught to be sent off.

‘There was a coming together and he has caught the lad but there was no malice or intent. I don’t think he’s ever been sent off in England before which speaks for itself.

‘The way the Panel sees it we’ll just have to wait and see.

‘Derbs has done a fantastic job on that left hand side working ever so hard and got a goal or two in the bargain and if he’s not available tomorrow night who ever takes his place will have seen what he’s been doing and they will be expected to put a similar amount of work in.’
