RUFC – Millers v Blackpool Stats

Well, that’s it. The season is over and all us football fans can go and contemplate our navel or do whatever football fans do when there is no football to watch.

Well, not quite all. Us Millers fans still have at least two games – and we are hoping it will be three – to play as we go into bat against Scunthorpe United next week in the play-off games.

Our last game of, what we shall call, the ‘regular’ season ended yesterday when we played, and beat, though not convincingly if you ask me, Blackpool at the New York Stadium.

Blackpool put up a fight and, if we are being honest, missed a right couple of sitters. But, then again, so did the Millers. (How many times have we said that this season?)

It was a hot day in the stands and would have been just as hot, if not hotter, on the pitch. In our wisdom we’d had the sprinklers on before the game, because it hadn’t rained since at least Wednesday, so the first ten minutes of the ninety was spent watching footballers from both sides slip over on their backsides. It did get better – no, it did – and both ‘keepers brought off good saves, both lots of strikers hit balls wide and in fairness to Blackpool if we hadn’t known better we might have thought they were going for a play-off spot themselves.

Will Vaulks goal was a good one, his cartwheel and back-flip deserved a nine out of ten, the Millers got three points and go into the play-offs with Scunthorpe in good fettle.

Will today’s starting eleven be the starting eleven at 1230 next Saturday at Glanford Park? I’m not so sure it will be – but we will just have to wait and see.

My Man Of The Match – I thought Matty Palmer had a good start to the game, Will Vaulks goal was as good as they come and we can’t forget Marek Rodak’s saves in goal but my Man of the Match has to be JOE MATTOCK who I thought put himself about a lot yesterday and looked back to full fitness.
