Rotherham United are confident of signing Gary Roberts who has been on trial with the club.

Roberts, twenty-two, is a defensive midfielder and could be just the player Manager, Ronnie Moore has been after as he looks for someone with pace.

‘We hope Gary will be putting pen to paper early this week,’ Moore told The Star.

Roberts began his career with Crewe Alexandra where he became a key player in their push for promotion in the 2006/7 season.

In 2008, Roberts went out on loan to Yeovil who eventually signed him but he was suspended by Town for a breach of club discipline and was later released by mutual consent.

Moore has gone on record as saying that Roberts’ attitude is first class and he deserves a second chance.
