Rotherham United goalkeeper, Jamie Annerson told MillersPlayer that he is enjoying his run in the team at the moment.

The twenty-two year old is getting a run in the side after first choice ‘keeper, Andy Warrington, had a terrible toe injury that led to an operation at the beginning of April. In the four games the young ‘keeper has played since then, he’s done well, though not actually seen a Millers win.

Speaking about the loss on Monday to Gillingham, Jamie said, ‘We’ve been doing it a lot lately, playing really well for sixty or seventy minutes and then the games just petered out a bit. The last two games the opposition have countered on that and we’ve come off disappointed. When they scored I was gutted because I’d pulled a couple of good saves off in the first half.

‘Although it’s still mathematically possible that we could get to a play-off spot, the feeling throughout the squad is that the chances of it happening are very slim and I think we’ve got to accept that we’ve got another season in this division. We’ve got to crack on and make it count next year and show what we are capable of.’

Asked if he had expected to still be playing now that Andy Warrington is fit, Jamie said, ‘Well there’s always that little doubt because he is an experienced ‘keeper and he’s now back fit and you never know especially with having two games, Friday and Monday, which were important. But, Andy hasn’t been back in training long and I’d have been disappointed if I’d not played today because I feel like I’ve done pretty well when I’ve played over the last few weeks.’

Asked if he thought there was a chance that he could become first choice for the Millers, the former England U19 player said, ‘Well I think so but it’s down to me. I’ve got the shirt at the moment and if I can keep putting the performances in then there’s no one else to blame if I don’t because it’s down to myself. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next week.’
