Will he? Won’t he?

That is the question – well it’s the one that’s on every Rotherham United fans mind at the moment. It, of course, is about Manager Neil Warnock who will soon be asked to make his mind up whether he is staying with the Millers next season or leaving.

The Gaffer came to the Millers in February and was given the job to keep the Millers in the Championship which he did with two games to go making him ‘a god’ or ‘a sir’ to the Millers fans. His contract was until the end of this month and so he and the Chairman Tony Stewart must soon make up their minds what they want to do.

Neil has already told us that he is helping Mr Stewart by telling him what is needed for a club in the Championship mainly an expansion to the training ground. He is also helping by telling the Chairman who he should keep and who he would be better letting go.

So looking at it that way the odds look good that he could still be in charge of the Millers next season – why would you help a club out if you were going to go to another club in the same division? And why would our Chairman want him to do that and go and tell another team what was happening at the New York Stadium?

And recently Mrs Warnock wrote an open letter to the fans thanking them for gifts received when we found out about her illness ending it with words to the effect ‘I hope to be able to thank you in person next season.’

That also hints that her other half will still be here next season.

But, on the other hand, Neil has said that ‘yes’ he’d like to stop in the Championship next season but he’d also like to have the chance of getting a team promoted. And, let’s be honest, I can’t see that being with Rotherham.

Then again we have to think is there another club who would let him spend so much time a week away from the club he manages leaving others in charge?

The last game of the season was away at Hull and at the end of the game the players and management came over to the visiting fans to thank them for their support and while everyone was waving and applauding a few of us caught Neil Warnock give a wave and immediately we turned to one another saying ‘is that a goodbye wave’? Well, I didn’t know the answer.

I’d love him and his back room staff to be here next season and I fear that the longer we wait for a decision the more time other teams have to steal him away from us and also a shorter time for the Millers to find a new Manager.

We are hearing this week that the Gaffer is 4/1 on to get the Cardiff City job although he is a Manager, a Gaffer and not a Head Coach that the Bluebirds are looking for. And then we are hearing today that ‘Neil’s team’ Sheffield United could be on the look out for someone to guide them to the Championship so that could be a juicy proposition for him.

But, Neil’s contracted until the end of this month and I can’t see us getting an answer much before that. And, whatever the answer may be not one Miller will forget what he’s done for us this season.

What do you think? Will he stay or will he be saying goodbye?
