Rotherham United have sent a written apology to Lincoln City and will make a donation to a charity, after problems at the turnstyles on Saturday left a lot of Imps fans angry and arriving inside the ground twenty minutes after the game had kicked off.

These problems stemmed from the fact that, according to Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas, there was a new price system in place at Don Valley. Mr Douglas told me that they had anticipated having problems and had taken extra float money but were caught out by a bigger than expected crowd. Lincoln fans say that there was no change at the turnstiles and some elected to pay more than the price advertised so they could get in to see the game. Mr Douglas says, ‘When we were at Millmoor we had our own safe on site and so the float was easily adjusted but because we don’t have this at Don Valley it took longer than we would have liked to transfer money from one turnstile to another. In future we will double the amount of float money we take to the stadium and we are confident that we will have no re-occurrence of this type of incident.’

As a goodwill gesture the club has sent a cheque for £200 to Lincoln for a charity of their choice – and Lincoln City’s, Chief Executive, Dave Roberts, says that it will go to their local charity, Children’s Links.

Mr Roberts said that he experienced problems at the match and he is impressed how serious Rotherham United have taken the complaints after meetings with Don Valley and South Yorkshire Police.

Mr Douglas has apologised to Lincoln for any inconvenience caused and that ‘lessons from Saturday have been learned. We are proud of our record in looking after visiting supporters and hope that this incident will not have a lasting effect.’
