RUFC – Message From Joe Newell ‘Keep Your Pies In Your Hands’

|

Rotherham United winger/midfielder Joe Newell became a ‘super-sub’ this afternoon when his first touch after coming off the bench was to put the ball into the back of the net.

Speaking after the two-all draw away at Scunthorpe the twenty-five year old told Radio Sheffield, ‘I didn’t expect it! I’m not usually the best when I come off the bench.

‘But I’m obviously delighted. It was a great assist from Richie Towell’s overhead kick and it went in. It was a good feeling. And it was right in front of our fans, though someone actually hit me with a balti pie in the side of the face! I love my curry so I know it was a balti!

‘There second goal was a scrappy goal which was a bit annoying but you’d have taken two-two before the game.

‘The lads played really well today and it’s a good result. If we win at home we’re at Wembley, it’s as simple as that.

‘The next game is going to be a big one and everyone is buzzing for it. We’re at home, it’s a night game, a full house, I’m sure it will be a good game. I just hope people keep their pies in their hands!’
