Rotherham United gave a first start of the season to midfielder Andy Liddell in last night`s Cup game at West Brom.

Speaking to Gerry Somerton of RotherFM after the defeat the thirty-six year old said, ‘It was a superb game and I thought Rotherham were the better team. We played some good football but let a couple of sloppy goals in although I thought the opening goal was off-side. But when the players don`t understand the off-side rule, the referee doesn`t understand the off-side rule, the fans don`t understand the off-side rule, no one understands it! He was off-side but he didn`t touch the ball and you just have to get on with it and we got back into the game well.

‘Micky (Cummins) scored a great goal and it was great to see Tom (Pope) get on the score sheet. Goals breed confidence and when you are a striker you just want to keep on scoring and scoring and his second goal was an absolute screamer – a beauty. But, you always know, with quality like West Brom have got, they will create chances and they took them and they won it. It`s a big disappointment that we are out of the Cup after the run last year.

‘You know, we`ve got some good technical players here and some good passers of the ball. We`ve got some young players, like Nicky Law, who could easily play in the Championship.

‘We`ve got to go to Macclesfield on Saturday and win. The league is bread and butter to Rotherham and the Cups are a bonus.`

Speaking about himself for a minute, Andy went on to say, ‘My personal life has been well documented and football has given me a focus in life. I`ve signed for a year with Rotherham and I am enjoying being here.`
