Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told MillersPlayer that striker Danny Ward is struggling ahead of the trip to Cardiff.

Ward limped off on Tuesday night with a calf strain with Warney saying, ‘He had a bit of fatigue in it on Saturday which is always a sign but he will travel tomorrow but I’d say, at the moment, he’s fifty-fifty.

‘He was in pain Wednesday but not today and worse case scenario is that he’ll not be available this weekend but will be next.

‘I’m not confident but I’ll leave it as late as I can to make a decision. But he wanted to travel with the squad which is always a good sign. We won’t take any unnecessary risks but if he’s available I’ll playing though I am expecting to have to look for something else up top.’

Dexter Blackstock came on for Ward on Tuesday night and Jerry Yates also played in the game so Warney does have options and he said, ‘I can always play Tayls (Jon Taylor) up front and the way he’s playing there’s always Woody (Richard Wood)! I thought Dexter was a handful when he came on and Jerry is getting more and more experience.

‘So I’ve got a few options and I’ve got a few systems of play running through my head.’

Going onto talk more about Blackstock, Warney said, ‘It hasn’t gone amazingly well for him but that’s as much to do with the managers as it has to do with the player. It’s not like he’s started every game and had loads of opportunity. I’ve been playing with one up front and Wardy’s been excellent and Dexter knows that. I’ve spoken to him and he knows the script and I thought he had an impact when he came on the other night.’
