Rotherham United defender Joe Mattock says that things have been ‘a little bit crazy’ at the club since Kenny Jackett resigned as Manager.

‘Kenny leaving was a bit of a surprise,’ the twenty-six year old told Radio Sheffield this evening, ‘but I do think Warney (Paul Warne) being in charge is going to help the lads.

‘He’s nice and positive and really motivated us all and seems to be getting a lot out of us in training. The last couple of weeks have been tough but training this and last week has been a lot more enjoyable.

‘Warney’s been at the club a number of years and is a club legend and it’s a massive thing for him to be in charge because he’s got such a good relationship with the players. I’m a bit surprised he doesn’t want the job on a permanent basis but we’ll support him whatever. He’s going to be in charge for the next couple of weeks and I’m looking forward to working with him and John Breckin who will bring in that little bit more experience, especially for me knowing he’s a former left-back. He was giving me a few tips and hints today where I should be position wise.

Looking at the table, Joe was asked if he thought the club were going down replying, ‘I don’t think you can think like that. It’s still pretty early on in the season and we’ve got many more games to come. We’ve got the talent and we need to stay motivated. I don’t think we’ve had that rub of the green but what we need to do is work on getting that first goal and stop conceding.

‘We’ve just got to keep our heads up and move on because that’s all we can do. There’s no doubt that there’s some talent in the side and we’ve got to keep digging in and hope results will start to come soon.’
