Rotherham United travel to the Britannia Stadium, home of Premier League Stoke City on Tuesday looking for a place in the Carling Cup quarter-finals, here’s a look at the history of this fixture.

The Millers make their 5th visit to the Britannia Stadium, Stoke, on Tuesday for the Carling Cup 4th round fixture.
The 4 previous meetings at the new ground saw Rotherham win twice and draw once.
The victories came in 2004, as goals in each half from Jody Morris and Martin Butler gave the Millers a 2-0 win, and in 2005, when Martin Butler netted against the Potters again to give the Millers a first half lead before a very eventful finish to the game.
Gifton Noel-Williams equalised for Stoke on 83 minutes, before deflecting a Paul McLaren shot into his own net on 90 minutes to send Rotherham home with all 3 points.
To add insult to injury, Stoke’s Michael Duberry was sent off in the last minute for a second bookable offence.
The draw came in the first meeting at the Britannia in September 2000.
Rotherham born centre-half David Artell opened the scoring for his home town club in only his 2nd full appearence after 26 minutes, before Peter Thorne equalised for the Potters with just 9 minutes remaining.
The game also saw Millers legend Alan Lee make his Rotherham debut.
The other meeting came in 2003 as first half goals from Paul Warhurst and Andy Cooke gave Stoke the points.

The 2 teams have met 3 times before in cup meetings, all 3 in the League Cup.
The first time was in a 5th round meeting on December 16th 1963.
The competition was only in it’s 4th season, but Rotherham already had a good League Cup pedigree after reaching the Final in 1961, the 5th round in 62 and the 4th round in 63.
Stoke were newly promoted to the first division while Rotherham were in Division 2, but the Millers nearly pulled off a giant killing before going down 3-2 at Stoke’s old Victoria Ground.
Brian Tiler and Brian Jackson netting for the Millers and John Ritchie (2) plus George Kinnell replying for the Potters in front of 12,988.
Stoke reached the final later that season before losing to Leicester over 2 legs.

The other League Cup meetings came over 2 legs in a 2nd round tie in 1984-85.
The Millers had reached the quarter-finals the previous season before going out 4-2 to Walsall at Millmoor, and fancied their chances against a Stoke City side struggling near the bottom of Division 1, and after this tie Stoke went on a run of 10 straight league defeats.
The first leg was played at the Victoria Ground and a goal in each half from Alan Birch and Tony Simmons helped the Millers to a 2-1 first leg lead, with Stoke’s reply coming from Carl Saunders in front of 8,221.
In the second leg at Millmoor, the game was levelled 2-2 on aggregate by a first half goal from Stoke’s right winger Ian Painter, but future Arsenal player Steve Bould put through his own net after the break to put Rotherham through to a 3rd round tie with Grimsby.
