A few facts and figures of previous games between the Millers and the Latics

Rotherham United and Oldham Athletic meet on Saturday at the New York Stadium for what will be the thirty-ninth league meeting between the two.

The last time the teams met at the New York Stadium was in League One in September 2013. The Millers opened the scoring on twenty-one minutes from the penalty spot after Matteo Lanzoni was perhaps harshly adjudged to have handled the ball in the area. Daniel Nardiello scored the spot kick and with five minutes to go until the end of the half David Mellor kicked out at Lee Frecklington with referee Richard Clark having no hesitation in brandishing a red card. Down to ten men Oldham equalised with a goal from Cristian Monano. In the second half Lanzoni put the visitors ahead on the fifty-third minute but a header ten minutes later from Frecklington made it two-all. With just one minute of the ninety to go a Ben Pringle corner bounced around the penalty box for a while before it fell to Nardiello who got his second and gave the Millers a three-two win.

On Boxing Day at Millmoor in 2006 Chris Porter put the visitors in front on twenty-nine minutes with Will Haining making it two-nil thirteen minutes later. Eugen Bopp pulled one back for the Millers nine minutes into the second half but Porter gave the Lactics a two goal cushion again on sixty-seven minutes. On eighty minutes Oldham’s ‘keeper Les Pogliacomi saved a good shot from Delroy Facey but the loose ball fell to Simon Charlton who was adjudged to have handled in the area and Will Hoskins took the resulting penalty making it three-two with ten minutes to go. The home side did all they could to get an equaliser but it wasn’t to be and it left the Millers in the bottom four of League One while Oldham moved into third place.

The Millers did beat Oldham that season at Millmoor in the Carling Cup a month earlier, three-one.

The last time the Millers beat Oldham at home in the league at Millmoor was in March 2006. An own goal on twenty-one minutes by Chris Swailes gave the Millers the lead with Paul McLaren making sure five minutes from time.

Rotherham have had two big wins over Oldham at Millmoor – firstly in the English Division Three (North) in May 1947 when they won eight-nil with a hat-trick from Wally Arden and also goals from Sheeny Wilson, Gladstone Guest, Jack Shaw and Len Hainsworth and secondly in the Old Division Two in March 1954 when Ron Burke, with a hat-trick, Jack Grainger, Norman Noble, Ian Wilson and an own goal gave the home side a seven-nil victory.
