This is only the eighth meeting between the two sides, with the corresponding fixture this season being a one all draw. Derek Holmes put the Millers in front at Moss Rose in the first half only for Martin Gritton to get the equaliser in the sixty-first minute.

The last time the Millers beat Macclesfield was at Millmoor in February 2000 with Rioch putting the visitors ahead with a penalty in the fifth minute. Sedgwick then equalised also from the penalty spot and just before half time Fortune-West got the Millers winner. The only other time the Millers have beaten the Silkmen was back in November 1997 and was again at Millmoor with Andy Hayward scoring the only goal of the game in the sixty ninth minute.
