Lincoln City are to set to become Rotherham’s first ever Football League opponents at Don Valley on Saturday, here’s a look back at the history of this fixture.

Vital Rotherham’s resident Stats Man Zipadeedoodah has a look at our games with The Imps

The Millers will be looking at extending our unbeaten home run against Lincoln after no defeats in the last 16 League and 5 Cup games over the Imps.
The last Lincoln victory came back on 7th December 1957, when a pre-Christmas low crowd at Millmoor of 8,393 saw our opponents come aay with a 2-1 victory.
Dunscroft born Barry Burns scoring the Millers consolation goal.

Last time out was on 23rd February this year, as Rotherham looked for the second League double of the season, following our 3-1 victory at Sincil Bank a month earlier, thanks to Derek Holmes’ perfect hat-trick.
Back at Millmoor and a 25th minute low shot from City player Louis Dodds opened the scoring.
10 minutes later and Ian Ross combined with Marc Joseph at a well worked free-kick, and the latter curled in from 25 yards.
After 64 minutes, the visitors were reduced to 10 men as Mark Stallards foul on Marc Joseph earned him a straight red for serious foul play from Referee, Nigel Miller.
Rotherham took full advantage of this, and took the lead for the first time in the game just a minute later.
Following a corner in which the Millers had 2 shots blocked, the ball broke free to Mark Hudson who hit a low drive past City keeper Marriott.
Rotherham extended the lead 8 minutes later as a through ball from Ryan Taylor found substitute Marc Newsham who made it 3-1.
City hit back off a counter attack as Ben Wright made it 3-2, but with only 3 minutes to go this proved just a consolation as the Millers held on for all 3 points in front of 4,321 at Millmoor.

The previous Millmoor meeting resulted in a 1-1 draw back on December 4th 1999.
The Millers consolidated 2nd place in the quest for automatic promotion from Division 3 with this point, while Lincoln climbed to 12th.
Rotherham’s leading goalscorer Darren Garner notched his 8th of the season on the stroke of half time to give Rotherham hopes of 3 points, but 7 minutes into the second half former Nottm Forest player Paul Smith levelled matters in front of 3,674 fans at Millmoor.

The previous Millers League victory over Lincoln City at Millmoor came on September 10th 1997.
Rotherham were looking to consolidate back in the bottom division after 8 years, and new boss Ronnie Moore had endured a shaky start to his tenure with just 1 win from the first 5 League games.
After a goalless first half, the game sprang to life 24 minutes after the interval in front of just 2,871 spectators.
Andy Roscoe opened the scoring after 69 minutes, before Lee Glover (75) and Jason White (81) made the points secure.
Paul Miller hit a consolation for the Imps 2 minutes from time.
This was Jason White’s Millers debut, which came the day after he signed from Northampton Town, and he would endear himself to the Millmoor faithful with 5 goals in his first 6 games.

The blast from the past comes from Division 4 on Saturday September 7th 1974, as table toppers Rotherham, who had won the first 3 League games that season came up against a Lincoln side in 5th place following 2 wins and a defeat from their openers.
3,808 at Millmoor saw left back John Breckin open the scoring and it stayed that way till half time.
Second half goals from United’s John Woodall, and City players John Ward and Dave Smith saw the points shared.
This result helped neither side as Rotherham lost top spot and dropped to 3rd, while City fell back into 9th position.
Rotherham had the last laugh as promotion was gained at the season’s end while Lincoln finished in 5th, just 2 points adrift of the Millers in 3rd.
