A few facts and figures of previous meetings between the Millers and the Bluebirds

Rotherham United travel to Cardiff to take on the Bluebirds for the fiftieth league meeting between the two sides.

Last season the game at the Cardiff City Stadium saw the teams getting a point a-piece. Anthony Pilkington got a ‘strange hat-trick’ after putting City one up on twenty-five minutes four minutes into the second half he put the ball in his own net to make it two-one to the Millers after Joe Newell had equalised just before half-time. But he made amends on the hour mark scoring for Cardiff to make it two-all. Six minutes before time Lee Peltier was sent-off for a second yellow card.

The 2014/15 season the game there in December was a goalless draw and the time before that when the two met in the Welsh capital was in 2004 at Ninian Park in the October when two second half goals from Peter Thorne gave the hosts all three Championship points.

The season before both sides were in League One and the game at Ninian Park in January saw the Millers start well going two-nil up within two minutes – goals coming from Stewart Talbot on three minutes followed by a John Mullin goal six minutes later. Peter Thorne pulled one back for the Bluebirds on twenty-four minutes with Graham Kavanagh equalising fourteen minutes later. A third goal for City was scored on the stroke of half-time by Robert Earnshaw which turned out the last goal of the game giving the hosts a three-two win.

The last time Rotherham beat Cardiff in Wales was when both sides were in League Three in August 1998 when the only goal of the game came on sixty-three minutes from Lee Glover.

The first time the teams ever met in Cardiff was in the Old Division Two on Easter Monday 1921 when City scored the only goal of the game.

The game at the New York Stadium earlier this season saw Cardiff take all three points. Goalless at half-time Izzy Brown put the hosts in front on the hour mark but two goals from Rickie Lambert gave City all three points. Greg Halford saw yellow for the Millers with Matthew Connolly and Sturart O’Keefe also carded for the visitors.
