Just a few facts of games between the Millers and the Bluebirds before Saturday’s FA Cup game
Rotherham United travel to Barrow for the first round proper of the FA Cup on Saturday, which is only the second time the two will have met in this competition.
The two teams last met in November 1988 in the FA Cup at Millmoor when goals from John Green, Bobby Williamson and an own goal gave the Millers a 3-1 win. Rotherham lost to Grimsby Town, at Millmoor, in the next round.
The last time the Millers travelled to Holker Street was in September 1969. The Millers won the game 2-1 with goals from Dennis Leigh and Jim Storrie. Brown scored for the Bluebirds.
Maybe the season to remember best for the two sides was way back in 1929/30. In September of that season, the game at Holker Street ended in a 4-1 win for the home side with four goals from Rock and one from Mathieson for the home side and a consolation from Harris for the Millers. But the Millers got their own back at Millmoor in January. Sellars, Murden (4), Orr and Parkin scored to give the Millers a 7-0 win.
The first time the teams ever met was way back in December 1925 at Millmoor. Schofield scored for Barrow with goals from Bestall and Chambers getting all the points for the Millers.
In the League the teams have met forty-six times – the Millers have won twenty-two of those games, Barrow winning seventeen and the rest being draws with the only nil-nil draw being in March 1948 at Millmoor.
