Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans says he was surprised when he heard about the charge that he played an ineligible player against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield the Millers Boss said, ‘I got a call from my Chairman to tell me it was happening but we aren’t involved in things like forms and loans and contracts we are here to pick the players and let other people do their side of it.

‘I’ve briefed the players saying that’s all we know and we now have to just get on with it and let the process take place behind the scenes.’

Asked how an administrative error, if that’s what it is, makes him feel, the Gaffer said, ‘I don’t think angry is the word. We are together as a football club from our Chairman down and we can only best affect results on the pitch as we can and sometimes we don’t get that right and sometimes we do.

‘We’ve got to keep our focus on the four matches we’ve got left but what I do think is that when it gets to the hearing at the Football League it will be a full and fair hearing for Rotherham United.’

Told that fans on social media sites are saying that if we lose three points we will be getting relegated, Steve said, ‘Behave yourself. That’s not going to happen. We’ve still got points to play for. What I do know is that we’ve got forty-three points on the board until somebody tells Steve Evans any different and there’s a lot of football to be played between now and the end of the season which I would suggest has more to do whether we are going to be a Championship club than anything the Football League has to do at the minute.’
