Rotherham United’s former Manager Steve Evans has been appointed as Leeds United Manager the owner Massimo Cellino says.

After Uwe Rosler was sacked this morning it was understand that Evans took training at the Thorp Arch complex with the Leeds United squad.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror Mr Cellino said, ‘He (Steve Evans) is a tough coach and I want that character in my team.

‘He (Rosler) was taking the team backwards but I accept responsibility for that because I chose him. I tried to help Uwe, but in the end, I couldn’t see even a patch of blue in the sky, just cloud, cloud and cloud.

‘I wanted the team to play heavy-rock football, but instead it was like country music.’

This is a strange one as just a year ago Steve Evans hinted that he wouldn’t like to work the way that Massimo Cellino works – ie not being able to sign his own players – saying, ‘if you work for Massimo Cellino, you coach the players and get the results from the players he brings in or you pay with your job, that is the way it is.’

Well, I think we all wish Steve Evans well in his new job, which he has taken on a twelve month rolling contract – although the owner seems to work on the ‘revolving door’ kind of contract. Good Luck Steve, I somehow think you’ll need it.
