Hartlepool United

Our last pre- season friendly sees Danny Wilson bring his Hartlepool team to Don Valley Stadium on Saturday.

Hartlepool are currently playing in League One and play their home games at Victoria Park, which famously staged a Middlesbrough game in the 1986/87 season after they were locked out of their then home, Ayrsome Park by the bailiffs.

In 1993, Hartlepool went into a fourth round FA Cup game with Sheffield United with a winding up order hanging over their heads but local business man, Harold Hornsey turns up trumps and rescued the club. In 1995 he built the East Stand and also put in a new covered terrace at the town end and renames the stadium Victoria Park.

In 2002, H`angus the Monkey, the teams mascot, was elected as Mayor of Hartlepool under the slogan ‘free bananas for schoolchildren.`!

The teams actually met the season after that in the League Cup at Victoria Park with ‘Pool winning 3-1. Lee Bullock put the home side in front and Delroy Facey equalised fourteen minutes later. Just before half time David Foley put the home side back in the lead and they got another from Ritchie Humphreys in the sixty-seventh minute.
