A few facts and figures of previous Cup games between the Millers and the Alex
Rotherham United’s first foray into the Emirates FA Cup this season sees them travel to Gresty Road to take on League Two side Crewe Alexandra.
The pair have met four times in the FA Cup in the past, the last time being in January 2002 in the Fourth Round at Millmoor. John Mullin opened the scoring on just three minutes for the hosts but the Railwaymen equalised on thirty-two minutes thanks to Geoff Thomas. Five minutes later Paul Warne put the Millers back in front but two second half goals from Dean Ashton plus one from David Vaughan gave Crewe a four-two win and a tie at Goodison Park against Everton.
January 1991 saw them meet again in the Fourth Round this time at Gresty Road where Crewe won one-nil.
The 1975/6 season saw the two meet in the First Round at Millmoor with Rotherham winning the tie two-one, the Millers goals coming from Alan Crawford and Paul Stancliffe.
The first time the pair met in this competition saw goals from Sheeny Wilson and Lou Armitage give Rotherham a two-nil home win in the First Round proper in November 1946.
The last time the Millers were at Gresty Road was in League One on the opening day of the 2013/14 season. The hosts led two-one at half time after Anthony Grant and Max Clayton had scored for Crewe within nine minutes, Lee Frecklington pulled one back on ten minutes for the visitors. A Harry Davis penalty three minutes into the second half made it three-one but with four minutes to go Ben Pringle pulled it back to three-two and in the final minute of the game up popped Frecklington again to get the Millers a point.
