Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans said he thought his side deserved to be in the draw for the next round of the Capital One Cup.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the game at the KC Stadium yesterday the Millers Boss said, ‘Apart from the first fifteen minutes I thought we took the game to the Championship side and I think we`ve dominated the chances and dominated the play. We were the better team and I think Steve Bruce is an honest man and will say the same. I can`t ask my players to do anymore regards effort and commitment and we got in some good areas but maybe we could do better in the final third. But that will come and this game will stand us in good stead going into next Saturday.

‘I think the referee had a poor game and we are all baffled why he didn`t give us a penalty, though he`s not the excuse why we lost the game. The referee said the guy got the ball then the man and I think he was the only person in the KC Stadium who sees it like that.`

Speaking about the Millers scorer, Lionel Ainsworth, who`s goal was quite a special one yesterday, Evans said, ‘His all round game was good and he gave us some energy out on the right hand side and Hull`s left back had a right problem dealing with him. We`ve been fighting to get the wee man fully fit and we always had the plan today that he would play a big part although he played a bit longer than we thought he might have done.`

Also mentioning goalkeeper Scott Shearer, who made some good saves yesterday, Evans didn`t blame him for Hull`s equaliser that seemed to ricochet off him and a Millers defender to the feet of McLean who scored, Evans said, ‘they were very fortunate to get that goal today.`

I actually disagree with Steve Evans a little – I think the referee and officials had a big part in the fact that we lost the game yesterday. They were dreadful. Every time Steve Bruce or his players put their arms in the air the referee gave them a decision. It looked a stalwart penalty to me – and there was one earlier where their player handled in the area too which I`ve seen given. But, I do agree that we were the better side.
