Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans, says that he wants the bulk of his squad in place by the middle of June and a full squad by the time the team report back for training after the summer break.

‘We`ll start to talk with our contracted and non-contracted players on Monday and those offered new terms will have a week to make up their minds whether they want to stay,` the gaffer told David Beddows of The Advertiser.

Having already released three and sent three loan players back to their parent clubs, Evans said, ‘We have to strengthen all over because we concede too many goals. And, in my time here, we`ve not scored enough goals either. We`ve inherited some quality footballers and we need to make sure they want to go forward with us.

‘The supporters want to see the team develop and we have a record of putting successful teams together. That is why we are here.

‘I was given three days to decide to come here and, if I`m honest, it took me less than a minute. And, it has to be the same for the players. Rotherham United felt right for us and they`ve got to feel they want to be part of it too.`

Evans has already shown potential players around the training ground and New York Stadium so it seems that there won`t be any last minute purchases and the team will get to know each other from day one of pre-season training – which can only be a good thing in my opinion.
