Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans said Saturday’s game against Greenock Morton wasn’t really about the score but more about getting match time into the players.

Kieran Agard scored the only goal of the game and the Millers Boss spoke about the striker, who there has been speculation over the last couple of weeks, telling Radio Sheffield, ‘It’s always good when somebody you play in a front position scores. He was perhaps unlucky not be have more.

‘But we were delighted with the contribution of them all. A lot of players played for forty-five minutes with just a few playing the full ninety which was because we’d got players out with little niggles.’

Asked about the new players who took part, the Gaffer said, ‘I thought Frazier Richardson and Richard Wood were excellent. They are both commanding experienced Championship players who have added to what we’ve got.

‘Conor Newton worked extremely hard. He’s been good in training and working very hard.

‘As a squad we are in fantastic shape. The fitness side is good under Paul Raynor and Paul Warne and Mark Stein on the medical side is working extremely hard as is Andy Dibble with the goalkeepers. Everyone is working really hard including the players who are working extremely hard to get to the levels we set them. In my opinion we were the fittest team in League One last season and we have to be like that in the Championship.’
