Rotherham United striker Matt Derbyshire seems to have settled into the Millers team.

Having had a bit of a ropy start to his life at the New York Stadium he’s now scored seven goals since being a permanent starter in January with Millers Manager Steve Evans saying he always knew Matt was a good player.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield the Millers Boss said, ‘I really felt for the kid because some of the chances he was missing was unthinkable. But he now looks a real handful and he’s been in super form.

‘His movement is terrific and his energy and work rate for the team is fantastic and he always looks capable of taking a chance and as a striker he’s top class.

‘Outwardly he’s a very confident boy but, on a personal basis, he needs to be reassured all the time and have confidence around him. I’m the person who pulled him in at the end of a barren run and said ‘whatever happens I’m going to play you because if I do that then I have to believe that you’ll score goals’. I think Matt has a few more goals left in him this season and, considering he didn’t start scoring until late in the season, if he gets to double figures it will have been a wonderful run he’s been on.

‘If we’d missed out on Matt Derbyshire last summer and he was back on the open market this summer would we try and sign him? The answer is yes.’
