Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans has told the Official Site that he has been trying to sign Anthony Wordsworth for some time.

Speaking after the twenty-five year old joined on a season long loan, the Millers Boss said, ‘I am delighted to have brought Anthony to the New York Stadium. We tried to sign him on a number of occasions last season but every time we got close he was back in the first team.’

Asked what he thought Anthony would bring to the Millers, Steve said, ‘The lad will bring a nice balance to our midfield. He is naturally left side with a sweet left peg but can play centrally if the situation arises. He is a talented boy who will be in contention for tomorrow’s game at Millwall.’

Personally I’m a bit surprised that he is ‘in contention’ for tomorrow’s game with Steve Evans always saying he won’t play anyone who hasn’t trained with the rest of the lads. And I expect the team are travelling to London today so Anthony won’t have had a lot of time to train will he? Not that I’m saying he shouldn’t be in the squad, just think it’s a little surprising.
