Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans has made his second signing of the season strengthening his defence by bringing in Richard Brindley from Chesterfield.

After the twenty year old signed a two year deal with the Millers, the Gaffer said he had been keeping an eye on Richard’s career for a while and might have got him before he signed the short term deal with the Spireites if he’d had a chance to go and see him for himself.

Speaking to the Official Site the Millers Boss said that he’d fought off competition from a Championship club to bring Richard to the New York saying, ‘We watched Richard at Chesterfield on four occasions and we knew he was a top talent and we weren’t surprised that there was interest from other League One and Championship clubs.

‘We met Richard and his representatives over the past few days and the bottom line was he was either going to sign for us or a Championship club but I think he thought it would be a real fight getting into the first team at a Championship club when we are talking about him getting into our first team now.

‘we have a young lad in Richard who I think will play at a much higher level, and hopefully that will be with the Millers.’
