Rotherham United striker, Drew Broughton will miss the opening games of the season due to a broken toe but he has told The Advertiser that it won’t get him down like it would have done when he was younger.

‘The first day you go home after an injury you are devastated,’ the thirty-one year old said, ‘but then you read the news about John Hartson who is dying of cancer and it puts things into perspective.’

The Millers, who are his sixteenth club, offered Broughton a new one year deal in the summer and he carried on, ‘I feel fit because I did six weeks of work before my injury. If I maintain that over the next few weeks and don’t put any weight on my foot I’ll be fine. I’m doing plenty of cycling and swimming and the physio is working me hard.’

It is hoped Drewe will be in contention for a place by the 20th August.
