Rotherham United are desperate to stop in the Championship and not only for pride but because of the money aspect.

Rotherham’s Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas says that another season in the Championship will give the Millers a much needed cash boost.

Speaking to The Advertiser Mr Douglas said, ‘Being a Championship club as opposed to a League One club means our turnover more or less doubles which is made more significant by the solidarity payments from the Premier League.

‘It’s not a cash bonanza that clubs like ourselves will use to replenish the coffers. The money is required for us to compete at this level and our Chairman, Tony Stewart, has always been open about his ambitions for Rotherham United and that any revenues will be reinvested.

‘We’ve seen big, big clubs willing to spend tens of millions of pounds to get to the Premier League but it has also been shown that you don’t have to match them pound for pound to match them on the pitch. There are no guarantees but we hope we are learning and the people responsible for recruiting players have a good understanding of what we need to be competitive.’

There’s lots of reasons we need to stay in the Championship – to keep the fans coming, to have the chance to get the better players and, of course, the money.
