Rotherham United`s Northern Irish left-back Danny Lafferty says that it`s a big achievement for a club like Rotherham to be playing Championship football again next season.

On loan from Burnley the twenty-six year old has made himself a permanent fixture in the Millers defence since joining in March.

‘It`s nice for me to have played my part in this,` Danny told Radio Sheffield after the two-one win last night, ‘and it`s a massive achievement for Rotherham United to say where they were just a few years ago.

‘Loan players can be the whipping boys for fans but I knew what position they were in when I came and I was happy to come and give my all for Rotherham. I wasn`t coming here just to play games, I wanted to impress and improve and develop myself and give everything I could for this team.`

Asked about the point`s reduction Danny admitted that it did hurt saying, ‘It made it hard for ourselves but as a team we had to take it in our stride and get on with it. And it spurred us on a bit having that bit of anger behind you. It was a bit of incentive and we merit being in this league next year.`

Asked about his plans for the immediate future, Danny said, ‘I`ve still got two years left on my contract at Burnley who are in a bad position at the minute. But who knows what the future holds and what football holds.

‘And no matter where I am or what I`m doing in my career I`ll always hold a little place in my heart for Rotherham.`

If we could this would be the first lad I`d try and sign up. He`s been great for Rotherham in the last few games – he`s got pace and passion and has certainly done his part in keeping us up this season.
