RUFC – Cutler ‘Millers done really well’

Rotherham United’s ex ‘keeper, Neil Cutler, is hoping that the Millers can do him a favour tomorrow and beat Exeter City.

Cuts is now goalkeeping coach with Alan Knill’s Bury and told The Advertiser that, although he’s had a really good season with the Shakers, automatic promotion would seal it for him.

The thirty-two year old joined the Millers from Stockport County in 2005 and played for two years. His last game was the last game of the 2006/07 season when the Millers lost to Bristol City 3-1.

‘Towards the end of my time with Rotherham I had loads of epidural injections for a back injury. After that last game I couldn’t run for five months and I was in the gym every day trying to build my back up but I knew I just couldn’t carry on. I started doing part-time coaching with Hereford and Bury and eventually Alan Knill asked me to go full-time with him. It’s been a really good season and there are no complaints.

‘Rotherham have done really well making sure they survived and not finishing too far off the play-offs. It can’t be easy playing at Don Valley with it being so open and windy. I like the way Rotherham are heading and the new stadium will be the platform for big things.’

As well as being coach to the first team ‘keepers at Bury, Neil also teaches six to sixteen year olds in the Midlands and has forged links with clubs feeding them the best young ‘keepers. ‘It’s a great job,’ he said. ‘Yes, I’m at an age when I’d be coming into my peak as a goalkeeper but you can’t stop and think ‘what if’. This is the next phase of my career and it’s something I really want to get my teeth into.’
