Rotherham United have decided that they won`t have undersoil heating in the New York Stadium.

Speaking to The Advertiser, Chairman, Tony Stewart said, ‘Undersoil heating costs £43,000 per game so it`s a non-starter.`

Millers Manager, Andy Scott, who has had experience with undersoil heating, said, ‘It`s the same with anything. If you put the heating on at home it doesn`t heat up the house straight away and it`s the same with a pitch. The heating needs to go on a while before the game and it does cost a lot of money and it`s just not practical.

‘I don`t think anyone will expect anyone at League Two level to have undersoil heating or in League One.`

The new stadium pitch will be made up of part grass and a part synthetic mix which is supposed to withstand lower temperatures.

Oh dear, and there was us thinking we needn`t worry about games being called off during a bad winter after being told we were having undersoil heating.
