Rotherham United’s Assistant Manager Richie Barker says that they knew what David Ball was all about before they signed him.

The Millers forward scored both goals in the two-one win over Blackpool at the weekend with Richie telling Radio Sheffield, ‘When he came in in pre-season we realised how good he actually was.

‘Then he had injuries and illnesses and then when we were winning seven out of nine games we couldn’t get him in the team.

‘But now he’s played the last three or four and picked up the mantle since Kieffer (Moore) got suspended which he’ll hopefully continue and become a mainstay in the team.

‘When we lost Jamie (Proctor) early in the season everyone was devastated. But what came out of that was we played Kieffer as a lone striker and won seven out of nine games.

‘You know, Kieffer has done fantastic for us and if he stays it will be great but no one player is better than the team. If Kieffer does move on then it will be an opportunity for someone else and that could be David, or Jono (Jonson Clarke-Harris) or Jerry (Yates) or someone who comes in fresh.

‘We all tell the players that when you get an opportunity you have a responsibility to yourself to take it. I’m sure the majority of us were given an opportunity along the line because somebody else dropped out of the team. Careers are built that way.’
