Rotherham United’s Assistant Manager Richie Barker told iFOLLOW that Saturday’s game against Scunthorpe United was a ‘proper top eight game’.

The Millers won the game two-nil with Richie saying he thought the Millers just about deserved all three points.

‘We are well aware that against a good team we had to be resolute defensively. The win against a team in the top half of the table was important as was the back-to-back clean sheets.

‘Not being disrespectful but it’s alright beating a couple of teams from in and around the relegation zone but it was important that we picked up points from teams round about us.

‘Confidence is high at the moment and we are trying to make our stadium a difficult place for others teams to come to.

‘It was a fantastic effort from the players and they did what we asked them to do.’

Going on to speak about Will Vaulks goal which opened the scoring on Saturday, and the fact that Warney gave him some of the accolades, Richie said, ‘A big part of my job is analysing the opposition and trying to work out how we can beat them.

‘I watch all the set plays they’ve had both for and against them over the previous month or so. I’d seen a set play that Wigan did and although it wasn’t exactly the same I’d seen an opening and the main aim was to try and get Will on the ball around the edge of the eighteen yard box on the first corner from the left.

‘Obviously there was more play to it which included Richie Towell and Anthony Forde but Will had to put the ball into the back of the net and what a great strike it was. From my point of view it was rewarding but it’s a big massive pat on the back for Will for the strike.’
