Rotherham United’s top goalscorer, Adam Le Fondre not only says that moving to the Millers was the right move for him, but it also helped his former club Rochdale too.

Speaking to The Advertiser, Alfie said of his ex team mate, Chris Dagnall, ‘Me and Daggers were too similar and we didn’t really gel when we played together. Losing me helped because they managed to bring in Chris O’Grady as a target man. You need someone in this league to hold the ball up for you and O’Grady can do that as well as linking up well with Dagnall. With the good players they’ve already got it’s all coming together for them.

‘I was in and out of the side at Rochdale last season and I wanted to play every week which is why I needed a move.’

The Millers travel to Alfie’s former club, Rochdale, on Saturday and I am assured he will get a warm welcome from the crowd at Spotland (although I don’t expect the same reception from Millers fans from ex-player Chris O’Grady).

Speaking about his former Manager, Keith Hill, Alfie said, ‘He’s one of the best managers I’ve played under. He gives the players a lot of freedom and he wants to get the ball down and play. He’s not one to defend.

‘I’ve got a lot of friends at Rochdale still, including Adam Rundle who has just had a loan spell with us and who I’m sure will be in the squad.

‘Like a lot of clubs at our level, money is tight for Rochdale which is why they needed to sell me and Rickie Lambert a few years ago to balance the books.’

Speaking about the postponements, Le Fondre said, ‘I’m not one for not playing. I want to play and get back to scoring regularly. I’ve had a couple of braces but I’m still waiting for my hat-trick.’
