Rotherham United’s top scorer, Adam Le Fondre told Leon Wobschall of The Yorkshire Evening Post that he wants to be top scorer in League Two this season.
After games, Alf admits that he always looks to see who else has scored and said, ‘What would be ideal at the end of the season is that Rotherham are top and I am leading scorer. I got close to being top scorer last season with Rochdale with twenty-one goals. This season I want to hit twenty as soon as possible and build on from there.’
The twenty-two year old has certainly become a firm favourite with Millers fans and has scored nine league goals so far and is joint top with Lee Hughes of Notts County and Dagenham and Redbridge’s Paul Benson.
‘It’s good to endear yourself to the fans,’ Le Fondre carried on, ‘and it’s helped me to settle in as well.’
Speaking about having a new Manager, Le Fondre said, ‘It’s a strange situation to be in when the man (Mark Robins) who brought me in leaves after two weeks. He’s bettered himself and I don’t begrudge him that, anyone in that situation would have done the same.’
Back to Rotherham United the striker said, ‘We should have picked up points against Cheltenham away and Hereford at home. In the end, against Notts County, we played for a draw and dug in and defended well with Woggy (Andy Warrington) keeping them out. Some teams, such as Morecambe, came to stifle us and I think it’s a mark of respect when teams come and put players behind the ball. We just need enough craft and guile to break some teams down but we should have nothing to fear from teams in this league.’
