Rotherham Untied welcome Cambridge United to the New York Stadium for the next round of the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday evening.

The Millers got through to this round by winning all their three games and topping Group E. Their first game was a six-nil away win against Doncaster Rovers before beating Scunthorpe four-one and a Manchester City U21 side five-nil both at the New York Stadium. They then took on Port Vale at the New York Stadium which ended one-all after ninety minutes – goals coming from Michael Smith for the Millers and David Amoo for the visitors – sending the tie to penalties which Rotherham won five-three. Their last game was this week away at Crewe and despite going one down came back to win four-two goals coming from Kieran Sadlier, Michael Smith, Joshua Kayode and Freddie Ladapo.

Cambridge finished top of Group H of the Southern Section winning two of their three games. They went on to a home tie against Walsall winning two-nil before meeting Portsmouth at the Abbey Stadium in the last round. Two goals from Harry Knibbs in the fiftieth and fifty-ninth minutes gave the hosts the lead with Michael Jacobs getting a consolation for Pompey.

This is the first time the teams have met in this competition although they met in mid-December in Cambridge where the only goal of the game came from Dan Barlaser on sixty-six minutes to give the Millers all three points. The game earlier in the season at the New York Season was a three-one win for Rotherham when goals from Ben Wiles, Barlaser (pen) and Freddie Ladapo for the Millers and one for Cambridge from Sam Smith saw the Millers win three-one.

This game has a 7pm kick-off.
