Rotherham United’s first home league game of the season sees Bristol Rovers the visitors and Neil Hair from Peterborough has the whistle.
After coming through the Peterborough and District Junior Alliance, the Peterborough League, the Peterborough Sunday Morning League and other regional leagues Neil started refereeing in the National League in 2016. The following season he found himself in the middle at Wembley for the Football Conference Play-Off when Boreham Wood took on Tranmere Rovers and was praised highly for his decision in the first minute to show a red card to Rovers’ Liam Ridehalgh for a two-footed challenge. He was promoted to the Football League in for the 2018/19 season.
Although Neil has been the Fourth Official a few times in games involving the Millers this is just the second time he has been in the middle, the first being in October 2019 when a goal in five minutes was enough to give visitors Wycombe Wanderers the three points at the New York Stadium. He booked seven players that day, the four Millers being Billy Jones, Matt Crooks, Michael Smith and substitute Carlton Morris.
Last season Neil was in the middle for twenty games showing seventy-one yellow cards and four red. His only game this season was in midweek in the Carabao Cup where he booked four players.
Running the line on Saturday we have Daniel Woodward and Stephen Wade and the Fourth Official will be Martin Woods.
