Rotherham United’s game on Wednesday evening away at Blackburn Rovers sees referee Jarred Gillett from Australia in the middle for his second Millers game of the season.

The first time we met Jarred was in October for our local derby with Sheffield Wednesday at the New York Stadium which was a great win three-nil win for the Millers with two goals from Jamie Lindsay and a Dan Barlaser penalty all in the first half as well as a red card for the Owls’ Tom Lees.

Born in Queensland, Jarred was an A-League Referee in Australia from 2010 to 2019, refereeing five Hyundai A-League Grand Finals as well as being named the Hyundai A-League Referee of the Year five times. He was also part of the Asian Football Confederation Project Future referees programme which saw him visit the Premier League in 2010. His first game as an A-League Referee was in the 2010-11 season and in April 2017 he was appointed as one of the inaugural Video Assistant Referees.

He has also officiated in the J-League, the Indian Super League, the Chinese Super League and the Saudi Professional League and a the 2015 International Champions Cup before moving to England to take up a post-doctoral research position at Liverpool John Moores University.

At the start of the 2019/20 season, Jarred joined the Select Group 2 in England, his first game being between Morecambe and Cheltenham of League Two in April 2019.

So far this season Jarred as been in the middle for thirteen games showing forty-three yellow cards and two red.

Running the line at Ewood Park we have Andrew Fox and Matthew Jones with the Fourth Official being Simon Mather.
