Rotherham United travel to the Keepmoat Stadium this evening to take on Doncaster Rovers in this season’s first game in the Papa John Trophy.

The Millers come into this game on the back of a two-nil home win against Rovers with their last away game also being a win, one-nil at Morecambe.

Rovers haven’t faired too well at the start of this season and sit at the bottom of League One alongside Crewe with just one point. The last home game against Portsmouth ended goalless although they did beat Walsall away in the first round of the Carabao Cup albeit it on penalties after a nil-nil draw.

Having just brought in free agent Joe Dodoo he could make his debut in this game as could winger Rodrigo Vilca who is on loan from Newcastle United. Former Miller Jon Taylor and Jordy Hiwula have both been out injured and will both be doubts for this game too.

Speaking to their Official Site Rovers Boss Richie Wellen said that the International break came at a good time for them, saying, ‘some players were recovering from injury and needed extra days while some others needed a rest. It’s a good chance for some players to get minutes, it’s an opportunity to get to Wembley which doesn’t come around too often.’

Paul Warne has players away on International duty but new boy Will Grigg might get some minutes in this game after signing on loan on the last day of the transfer window from Sunderland. It could be that we see some of the fringe players start for Rotherham this evening.

First Team Coach with the Millers Matt Hamshaw told Radio Sheffield that he isn’t expecting to be that many changes as people thinking to tonight’s team, although there could be a few different faces. ‘We have full confidence in anyone who puts a shirt on for us so it will be a strong team and one we will try to win. And it’s an opportunity for us to look at some of our players in a competitive game and not an arranged fixture.’

This evening’s referee is Ben Speedie from Merseyside
