Quick Preview – Warney v Robbo

|

Rotherham United have had a quick turn around for this game having played on Tuesday and now take on Coventry City with the only plus factor in this being that the games were both at home.

The Millers beat Queens Park Rangers at the New York Stadium on Tuesday night three-one despite going one behind and drew away at Huddersfield at the weekend.

Coventry lost their away game at Bournemouth on Saturday their last away win coming in the first game of 2021 when they won two-one at Millwall.

The sides are practically neck-and-neck in the league with City having forty points and the Millers thirty-nine. Of course, Rotherham have games in hand but they have to get something from those games to lift them above Coventry while the Millers also have a better goal difference, minus eleven to the Sky Blue’s minus twenty.

It’s a tight game and one both will want to win.

Freddie Ladapo, who scored twice on Tuesday night also picked up a groin injury but the striker himself insists he will be ready for tonight – whether the physio’s agree with him is a different matter. Michael Ihiekwe missed out on Tuesday and must be a doubt for this one too while it’s thought that Richard Wood might be rested. Matt Olosunde has a calf problem but will probably make it.

Speaking to iFollow after Tuesday’s win Millers Boss Paul Warne said, ‘Winning tonight was a good start to the four games but, for obvious reasons, to win the Coventry game would get us in good fettle. It’s imperative that we perform at a level and it’s a must win but they are all must win games.’

Gustavo Hamer is in line for a start after playing the last twenty minutes at Bournemouth but this game has probably come too early forFankaty Dabo. Josh Pask was stretchered off at the weekend and fellow centre-half Kyle McFadzean was treated for a knee injury. Dom Hyam has been out with illness but could make it tonight but Michael Rose has been missing with a groin injury and it’s touch and go whether he will be fit.

City Manager Mark Robins told his players earlier this week that if they weren’t up for this game then he would pick someone else telling Coventry Live, ‘I want them to move on from it (the defeat at Bournemouth) and be in a positive frame of mind for the last six. Thursday is, and always has been a big game, and will be a big game for both clubs because both want to get positive results.’

Australian Jarred Gillett is the referee this evening.
