Quick Preview – Millers v Watford

|

Rotherham United take on Watford this evening which will be the Millers first game since the beginning of the month due to the club being ‘shut down’ because of a Covid-19 outbreak amongst the staff and players.

The Millers were last at home at the end of last month which saw a twenty-six minute goal give visitors Reading all three points. Watford play their second away game of the week, the first being a two-one win at Cardiff.

Watford start this game in second place of the Championship, ten points behind leaders Norwich City. Having three or four games in hand of the teams around them Rotherham are in the bottom three.

The Hornets last lost away from home at the end of February away at Bournemouth with the Millers last game being a two-one away win against neighbours Sheffield Wednesday.

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne will be self-isolating for this game with Richie Barker taking over in the dugout and players Richard Wood and Shaun MacDonald helping out in training as first team coach Matt Hamshaw is also on the self-isolation list.

The Gaffer told the Official Site that the virus had hit the the Millers ‘really, really hard’ with the team’s first day back training being yesterday. Warney went on to say, ‘Nobody expects us to get anything from this game and I quite like the fact that nobody gives us a chance. The lads will use that as fuel I hope and go out and enjoy themselves and play without any inhibitions.’

Although the Boss knows what formation he would like to play against Watford it will probably be a case of which players are actually in any fit state to play. Warney said that he didn’t want to put anyone’s health at risk saying, ‘It might be that we start with a team tomorrow and have to make three subs at half-time.’

Hornets Head Coach Xisco Munoz could have Christian Kabasele back after an injury that has kept him out since December.

Speaking ahead of the clash Watford midfielder Will Hughes told their Official Site that no away game in the Championship is easy and he is expecting another tough game saying, ‘We know we have got the quality to beat them, but it’s not as easy as that.   We have to win the battles, win our duels and hopefully our quality will shine through.’

Jeremy Simpson from Lancashire has the whistle this evening.
