Rotherham United welcome Reading to the New York Stadium for their next Championship encounter – which is predicted to be played in 30C heat.

Having played just one league game so far this season the Millers find themselves coming into this one in nineteenth place after a home draw with Swansea. The Royals are nine places better off their last league game being a home win over Cardiff, though they lost the first game away against Blackpool.

Both teams took part in the Carabao Cup in mid-week, Reading losing at home to Stevenage with Rotherham beating Port Vale away.

The Millers will be without Joshua Kayode and Tom Eaves, who have long-term injuries, though Eaves is due to train again after the weekend. Both Conor Washington and Peter Kioso came off in Carabao Cup game on Wednesday night and will be assessed before the game. It was thought there could be a new striker in town but that seems to have fallen by the wayside.

Assistant Manager Richie Barker told iFollow that he is expecting a ‘tough game’ saying , ‘Reading have had a mixed start, but have very good players and a manager I know really well. We want to build on the good start we had against Swansea.

Reading’s injury list reads like a shortened version of War and Peace (a bit like the Millers I suppose) with Ovie Eharia, Yakour Meite, Liam Moore, Scott Dann and Lucas Joao all out with Sam Hutchinson rated as ‘doubtful’ for this game.

Royals Manager Paul Ince told their Official Site that the Millers have had ‘time to rest’ after Sunday’s game with Coventry was called off. ‘They played Wednesday,’ Ince admitted, ‘but didn’t play most of their first teamers’ (<i>Ed Note – erm, I think you’ll find we did). ‘Rotherham is a tough place to go,’ Ince carried on, ‘they like to press high and cause teams problems. Paul Warne and the owner have done fantastic jobs there. We’ll go there feeling positive after the Cardiff result.’

The referee for this game is Stephen Martin from Staffordshire
