Rotherham United are taking a team to the Look Local Arena this evening to take on Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Stocksbridge PS were formed in 1986 when two clubs, Stocksbridge Works FC and Stocksbridge Club Oxley Park Sports F.C merged.

In the late 80’s and early 90’s the club spent a lot of money on their Bracken Moor Stadium in order to aid the club to rise through the non-league system.

In 1993/4 Steels won the Premier Division of the NCEL, but the ground improvements were deemed not good enough for them to take up their place in the Unibond League. Last season Stocksbridge PS finished thirteenth in the Northern Premier League, Premier Division.

The Look Local Stadium, which changed its name from the Bracken Moor Stadium in 2006 holds 3,500 and Stocksbridge have an average gate of two hundred, although two thousand turned up for a friendly against Sheffield Wednesday in October 1991 which marked the inauguration of the ground’s floodlights.

Famous players for the Steels include Chris Waddle, who made one appearance, former Millers Richard Tracey and Andy Kiwomya and former Scunthorpe midfielder Wayne Bullimore.

Last season the Steels finished eleventh in the Northern Premier League Division One South.

Kick-off for tonight’s game is 7.30pm with tickets on the gate priced at Adults – £8, Concessions- £5 and Under 12’s – £2.
