Rotherham United are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, I don’t think there is any secret in that, although they do have two ‘keepers on their books at the moment in Lewis Price and Laurence Bilboe but after Marek Rodak returned to Fulham after having two years loan spell at the New York Stadium, a number one is high on the priority list.
Speaking to Freeview today, Millers Boss Paul Warne said that Goalkeeping Coach Mike Pollitt will be the one entrusted with identifying which ‘keeper he wants.
Well, maybe this is just me, but given his job title I’d have thought Polly would be the best man for that job anyway without the Gaffer having to actually point it out to us!
‘Polly has a list,’ Warne said, ‘and as long as the one he wants to bring here ticks the attributes that we want from a goalkeeper then we’ll try to get him. But whoever I bring in Pricey and Laurence will be competing with them.’
In the interview Warney did say that he likes a modern ‘keeper and will probably get someone in like Marek Rodak who was, at the time, surplus to Fulham in the Premier League and needed/wanted to go out on loan to get games under his belt.
And, as a fan, I have no problem with someone like that coming in – but, as I’ve mentioned before, I’d also like to see Bilboe given a chance in the first team this coming season.
