Rotherham United’s next game is in the Papa John’s Trophy when they visit the Mornflake Stadium to take on Crewe Alexandra which is the first time they have been paired in this competition so, to be honest, there isn’t really a head-to-head to talk about!

But this is how both teams got to this stage –

The Millers got through to this round by winning all their three games and topping Group E. Their first game was a six-nil away win against Doncaster Rovers before beating Scunthorpe four-one and a Manchester City U21 side five-nil both at the New York Stadium. The Millers then took on Port Vale at the New York Stadium which ended one-all after ninety minutes – goals coming from Michael Smith for the Millers and David Amoo for the visitors – sending the tie to penalties which Rotherham won five-three.

After already overcoming Shrewsbury, Wigan and a Wolves U21 side Crewe finished top of Group C to earn a home tie against Doncaster Rovers which they won two-nil with Ben Knight and Oliver Finney scoring a goal in each half.
