The English Football League and the Premier League have agreed on a package that will help keep teams in the Championship and Leagues One and Two afloat after the bad year we have all had due to Covid-19.

Packages have been agreed that sees each League One club get a minimum payment of  £375,000 and each League Two club get a minimum payment of £250,000 which will come direct from the Premier League. And the remaining monies will be distributed based on lost gate receipts with £20m will be available as a monitored grant if needed.

Rotherham United along with the other clubs in the Championship can get loans of up to £8.33m which is interest-free but must be repaid by June 2024.

EFL Chairman Rick Parry said that he was pleased that a resolution on behalf of the EFL clubs had been reached saying, ‘Our over-arching aim throughout this process has been to ensure that all EFL Clubs survive the financial impact of the pandemic.’

Richard Masters, the Premier League Executive, said, ‘The Premier League is a huge a supporter of the football pyramid and is well aware of the important role clubs play in their communities. Our commitment is that no EFL club need go out of business due to Covid-19. We are very pleased to have reached this agreement and we stand together with the EFL in our commitment to protect all clubs in these unprecedented times.’
